November 2008 - India

Perry Edwards recently travelled overseas for two weeks' ministry.  Perry counted it a privilege to teach in India.  He writes, "I praise God for the opportunity He provided through Carey Outreach Ministries to visit India in October, in order to provide further training for the Pastors in that needy country. During my first week I taught The Book of Acts, and in the second, Early Church History. There were forty two pastors who attended the two week session. Although I could not understand most of them, a bond began to grow between us as the days went by. I am thankful to the Lord for His goodness and the privilege of serving him in this teaching ministry."

Praising God in the Villages

"During some of the evenings and on the weekend we visited several village churches to preach the gospel. It was a delight to hear the pounding of the drums (Their main instrument in worship) the loud clapping of the hands and the exuberant singing. The combination of the three was sometimes deafening as we crowded into small church buildings to worship. Although I could not understand the words the people were singing, it was a delight to my soul to hear them sounding forth praises to God in their own language."

Preaching & Praying ~ Praise God!

"I preached through a translator (not as difficult as one might think) and then the people lined up after the service for prayer. I laid hands on, and prayed for more people after each service than I think I have in my 15 years of pastoral ministry in Canada. It was a moving and enriching experience to my soul. I praise God that as a result of the village preaching, 9 people made professions of faith. I even had the opportunity to pray for several Muslim women who came to the Bible school and asked me to pray for them.

Baptisms

Perry continues, "I also had the opportunity to baptize 5 women in the Khrisna river. One of the women was nine months pregnant, so I jokingly asked the pastors with me if I had just performed my first infant baptism. They assured me that if it was an infant baptism, at least it was by done by immersion."

The opportunities for gospel ministry in India are huge. There are churches to be built, orphanages, old age homes, and Bible Schools to be established, and souls---a billion souls---who need Jesus Christ!

Perry testifies, "I am filled with joy as I think of India, and look forward to the day when I can visit that my brothers and sisters in Christ in that far away land, and preach the gospel to those who need to hear it."

Sincerely,
